Our Healthcare Heroes

Sunday, January 3, 2021 10:32 PM

I recently came across a powerful quote from Toni Morrison that I love, I feel it is very timely,  relevant and want to share: "I know the world is bruised and bleeding, and though it is important not to ignore its pain, it is also critical to refuse to succumb to its malevolence. Like failure, chaos contains information that can lead to knowledge — even wisdom. Like art.”

2020 is behind us now, and over the holidays, I spent a lot of time thinking about this coming year. Like everyone – I’m hoping that 2021 will be better, though I know there still lies a bumpy road ahead. So, I’ve decided to focus all of my energies on gratitude - to focus on being grateful for all that we have, and I’m going to try to express some of my gratitude through art. This is my first effort.

My father was a doctor and my mother a nurse and my niece is now a practicing nurse too. As a witness to my parent’s stress, I can tell you that at the best of times, working in healthcare is never an easy life. Throw a pandemic into the mix, and I can’t even begin to imagine what our healthcare professionals, both here in PEC and across the globe, are experiencing. This is my way of saying thanks to them for their MANY sacrifices for our benefit. And despite the behaviour of lunatic anti-maskers, or those who defy lockdowns and think this pandemic is a “hoax” – these heroes work day and night to protect and save lives, and for that I am most grateful!
