The Mustang Drive-In

Tuesday, August 31, 2021 9:18 PM

Admittedly, this is a super rushed post. I just realized that The Mustang’s final weekend is this coming labour day weekend, so I wanted to slide this in before the season closes!

I do these illustrations for a few reasons. Usually/typically, it’s because I’ve either been inspired by or really impressed by a local business, chef, artist or just an outstanding individual and I just want to shout them out to say how great I think they are. Sometimes, as in this case, it is all of the above - but, I also want to thank them.

Dawn and Drew purchased this iconic theatre located in the heart of PEC right at the start of COVID (great timing! You can read about them in this feature in The Globe and Mail), and I recently had the good fortune of being able to work on an event with them a couple of weeks ago. In my career working in film, I’ve worked on hundreds of promotional screening events at various theatres across Canada, but I have never done an event at a Drive-In. It’s a whole new ballgame, and a really fun one at that.

Working with Dawn and Drew was an amazing experience - no question was too stupid (though - I’m pretty sure there were some really stupid questions) and no asks were too ridiculous. And although they were also working on some major events before ours that meant exceptionally late nights for them, both Dawn and Drew were always quick to respond and were very, very patient while we determined exactly how we could shape our event.

They also offered some great guidance on tracking down suppliers in the region, and had some awesome ideas to contribute to our plans as well. They went above and beyond and while there were certainly stressful moments, they made it fun. If you’re looking for a cool spot to host an event that will not only attract locals but also a WHOLE lot of visitors from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, I would highly recommend them.

And, If you are not an event planner and are just looking for something fun to do with your family/friends - visit their site for schedule updates or follow them on Instagram or Facebook. In addition to screening current or nostalgic movies throughout the summer, they also host very cool concerts and trunk show markets.

Thanks Dawn and Drew!! It was such a pleasure meeting and working with you, I hope you get plenty of rest over the winter, and I’m very excited to see what amazing events you both cook up for next year at The Mustang!
